Sankendo is a cylindrical, double-layer reinforced concrete hall built within Chokoen Garden in 1936 by Kumamoto City politician Adachi Kenzo as a spiritual cultivation spot for residents. In the circular hall, the seated figures of the Higo domain's three wise men, Kikuchi Taketoki, Kato Kiyomasa, and Hosokawa Shigekata, were enshrined by sculptors Tajima Kamehiko, Asakura Fumio, and Hase Hideo. Kenzo built his own residence just under Sankendo and named it Gensenso, and the room called Biosai was his study room.
