    We hope that you will go see the precious cultural properties of our city, starting with Kumamoto Castle as well as various sculptures, historical documents, kofun (tombs), folk arts, and natural monuments.

    Local Cultural Assets:

    Cultural resources important to the area are designated as local cultural assets under the Local Cultural Asset System introduced in January 2021 to identify local treasures that can be used for the development of the area. For details on applications and the cultural resources that have been designated as local cultural assets, please consult here.

    Local Cultural Asset No.1: Takuma Shin-Shikoku 88 Temples Pilgrimage

    Modeled after the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, this pilgrimage tradition in the Takuma Sanzan Mountains started in 1926. There is a group pilgrimage on the very first Saturday of April each year.
