What is the Gourmet Secret "Furikake"?
Gohan no Tomo is a brand of furikake (a flavored topping of sprinkles for rice) developed in the Taisho era (1912-26). Featuring the same simple taste that one never tires of, this topping has been loved by people in Kumamoto for over 100 years. Over 40% of this furikake is made with carefully chosen sardines, seasoned with a special soy sauce developed to bring out their flavor. Besides plain rice, this topping is also recommended to season rice bowls topped with eggs or natto (fermented soybeans), and even as as an accent for Chinese fried rice. Perfect for giving as a souvenir too!
