This park is based on the book "Kusamakura", written by the famous 19th century author Natsume Soseki. The park contains a recreation of the teahouse mentioned in the novel, as well as a rest stop and small shop. The park is a popular place for hikers to stop as they trek their way up Mt. Kinpo, as well as for families going for a drive through the mountains. The teahouse also is home to a small museum that contains a number of materials related to Natsume Soseki, which visitors can browse through to learn more about the author and the history behind the area.

The International "Kusamakura" Haiku Competition is held in honor of Natsume Soseki, who wrote many of his haiku in Kumamoto.
